July 15, 2015 - The story of OMBEE V.2......Now that we were on a mission to make a portable stand-up desk, there were still a couple factors I had to consider. We all know sitting is bad, as outlined by the infographic link below.
But standing all day at a desk in a fixed position isn't very good for you either. You need to keep your feet and lower body moving, we know that. Now we could use a treadmill but that was way out of our budget. Let's face it, most stand up treadmill desks are super expensive, take up too much space, and are NOT PORTABLE.
My buddy Mark saw my Ikea table from the last post and lightbulbs went off in his head. At 11 pm, he brought over a vegetable crate which he thought we could use in developing the prototype. So I sawed the crate in half and added a few hinges and, boom, the second version of the OMBEE desk was made. It was now collapsable and folded down into a very small space. It worked well with the combination of the swivel board to provide lower body movement. After a few days of using the desk, I felt my posture improve and even my mood was better. Research has shown that good posture is linked to increased confidence, better memory, more energy, as well as a myriad of physical benefits. *
